Japanese inspired condiment dishes
A fundamental rule of ceramics is "Don't mix clay bodies". Porcelain can shrink by more than 20% during the firing process. Volcan - a very gritty black clay shrinks by less than 10%. But I couldn't resist trying, and reasoned that small pieces and lots of compression might help.
The pieces are thrown from balls of layered, mixed clay bodies; Porcelain, Volcan, Crank and Buff.
The forms are inspired by saki bottles and cylinders, chosen because of the way they sit together as a set.
Each piece has been fired in reduction, enhancing each clay's earth tones. Glazing only on the inside, the texture of each clay is preserved on the outside.
Set of 4 ceramic dishes up to 6cm x 6cm on a presentation tray £60
